Topping Off 10 Years with Grape to Glass Tours

The last weekend of September topped off a month filled with festivities honoring 10 years of Harney Lane! We enjoyed chocolate Zinfandel ice cream over Labor Day weekend, a mid-month harvest workshop with winery owner Kyle, a reserve tasting menu and Vineyard Walks every Sunday. September activities culminated with a weekend of complimentary Grape to Glass Tours, which recently took first place in USA Today’s 10 Best contest as Best Winery Tour in 2018. The tours could not have come at a better or more exciting time of year – harvest!USA Today 10Best Reader's Choice winner

Although we are incredibly proud of the recognition our Grape to Glass tours have received, we love our tours because they reflect our values as a family and business – comfortable, casual and grounded. After all, we are farmers first! Our animated tour guide and long-time Harney Lane Ambassador, Concetta, led guests through the life of the literal “grape to glass” on our family farm.

Guests had an opportunity to view various stages of harvest all weekend. Grapes lay fermenting in bins, while freshly picked bunches were sorted by hand. The crush pad was loaded with full tanks and the winery was stocked to the brim with barrels in various stages of processing. The smells and sounds of a working winery lingered in the air, making our tasting lineup all the more enjoyable for guests – many of whom had never visited Harney Lane Winery before!Group visiting Harney Lane harvester

Out in the vineyards, just-picked vines were beginning to display fall colors. Concetta demonstrated Brix testing using a refractometer, and discussed the differences between hand picking and machine harvesting, with plenty of real-life visuals hanging right there on the vines. Although September is now behind us, the celebration continues. We cannot believe that we’ve surpassed the 10 year benchmark as winemakers, with over 100 years of grape growing history! We thank all who stopped by the winery to celebrate with us and raise our glasses to you – and to many more years of doing what we love!
