The 5000 Piece Puzzle!

The tasting room now has 17 solid cement square pillars.  It has been quite a process to get them to this stage.  An unbelievable amount of rebar, carefully placed electrical, large column molds placed by a crane, special inspectors for cement, to name a few pieces, all just to get 2′ x 2′ x 10′ pillars!  It’s one of those pieces of the puzzle, like so many others, that you would never stop to think how many things had to happen to get the end result.  We have found that almost every piece of this…

Under Construction at First Sip!

November 8th & 9th we pulled out all the stops to get ready for Lodi’s First Sip Event!  It was well worth the work as we had a great turnout and made lots of new friends already!!!  The week before was CRAZY!  In fact, we still had to run extension cords for power and luckily…the plumber placed the toilet Friday afternoon.  Just in the nick of time! Part of this vineyard was again picked for our Lizzy James Vineyard, Old Vine Zinfandel….

Progress! Progress! Progress!

People have been asking, and if you don’t drive down Harney Lane frequently you won’t know what progress has been made on the winery. Progress is, of course, never as fast as we would like but there are some definite visible changes occurring. My Dad has taken on the landscaping job and was able to get a fair amount of planting done before harvest got rolling. (see the first pic) Things will slow down with harvest here soon and then pathways and the remaining planting can be completed. There is the perfect spot under the…

Red Wine 101

Click for Winemaking Slide Show I’ve been raised in a winegrape growing family but I have to admit that winemaking was a little baffling to me. I knew the grapes went to the winery, got crushed, fermented and bottled…..end of story. I had no idea until recent years how much care really goes into handcrafting small lots of wines. So, I thought you may be interested in the simplified version.(Chad-our winemaker- still loses me when he starts talking chemistry.) If you click on the slide show above you can see a little of what goes…
