Making Time for Self Care

Reading & Wine

As the season signals a shift, it is fair to say we are ready for a change of pace. 2020 has been a challenging year for us all and there is really no way around that fact. We have each been impacted in one way or another. It has pushed us, however, to find new ways to positively connect with you…and with ourselves. We value wine as a vehicle for creating positive experiences and enriching moments. Taking time away from daily responsibilities is another way relax and reflect. We asked our team for their insights and have put together a few ideas that we hope inspire you to stay positive and flourish – one sip at a time.

Tip 1: Find joy in things you love. That might mean savoring a special wine, bingeing a new Netflix show, hiking in the outdoors, sewing seeds for spring blooms, online retail therapy or catching up with family and friends.

Tip 2: Embrace the fall coziness. This is a time to slow down, reflect and enjoy the season to come. Savor the cooler air, pull out your warm blankets and delight in seasonal treats, like apple cider donuts and pumpkin carving. We had a blast creating these charming succulent pumpkins, which will keep us cheerful for months to come!

Tip 3: Feed your soul, whether that’s literally (hello soup season!) or with mood-boosting activities like meditation, nature walks and practicing daily gratitudes.

Tip 4: Move your body. Set a little time aside for a quick yoga session, a walk around the block, an afternoon of garden cleanup or a more intense workout, if that’s your thing. Be kind to your body, stay hydrated and be proud of whatever progress you make. We’re all moving along one day at a time.

Tip 5: Get cooking! Pull out your apron, dust off your kitchen tools and try out a new cookbook or recipe. We have a whole collection of amazing comfort food cookbooks available in our Tasting Room (or email us for details). Not interested in kitchen adventures? Treat yourself to takeout from a new restaurant or an old favorite that may be in need of your support.

Tip 6: Disconnect. That’s right, we said it. Put your phone away! Perhaps pull out a book you’ve been staring at or make time to connect over coffee and conversation with a partner or a friend. Devices can feel like our only way to stay up-to-date on the goings-on in a rather isolating time, but sometimes a little quiet is exactly what we need.

Tip 7: Play! Kids at home? Helping out with the grandkids? Adults aren’t the only ones feeling stressed, between homeschooling and missing friends. A good old-fashioned three-legged race or a game of ‘Mother May I?’ can quickly bring on the giggles for everyone involved…

Tip 8: Drink wine. We bet you didn’t see that one coming, did you?! But seriously, there are a host of reasons why wine is a good bet when you just need a moment to breathe. Pour yourself a glass and think about this: moderate wine drinking can positively impact your heart health, antioxidant intake, reduce inflammation and even make your gut happy. Plus, it’s a “me time” luxury we can all agree on.

Ultimately, drinking wine is a ritual that requires taking time to do something nice for yourself. As with each of the tips above, the most important thing to remember is that you deserve it.
