The 5000 Piece Puzzle!

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

The tasting room now has 17 solid cement square pillars.  It has been quite a process to get them to this stage.  An unbelievable amount of rebar, carefully placed electrical, large column molds placed by a crane, special inspectors for cement, to name a few pieces, all just to get 2′ x 2′ x 10′ pillars!  It’s one of those pieces of the puzzle, like so many others, that you would never stop to think how many things had to happen to get the end result.  We have found that almost every piece of this process to start a winery is like that.  From all the steps involved in making high quality hand crafted wines, to the simple things like shipping wine or picking out bags.  From the exciting to the mundane, it seems that every item on our checklist has atleast a dozen sub-points under it.  The past 2 years have been an incredible journey of learning and of having step outside of our comfort zones.  So while this all began as a business venture, it has turned out shaping our lives, our experiences and who we are.

As I write this, I am reminded that tomorrow is Thanksgiving.  So, thank you for being patient with us and our process!  And thank you for supporting us and spreading good things about us.  We appreciate you more than you could ever know!!!!  May your holidays be filled with love, an abundance of laughter, special memories with family and, of course, some Harney Lane wine!!!!

Under Construction at First Sip!

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

November 8th & 9th we pulled out all the stops to get ready for Lodi’s First Sip Event!  It was well worth the work as we had a great turnout and made lots of new friends already!!!  The week before was CRAZY!  In fact, we still had to run extension cords for power and luckily…the plumber placed the toilet Friday afternoon.  Just in the nick of time!

That said, we had lots of positive feedback and people were good sports about wearing their “construction” hats.  We’ve been planning for soooo long that it seemed a bit surreal to actually be holding a public tasting event.  BUT….it was a very encouraging start and the days went pretty smoothly!

We are taking one weekend off (Nov 15th & 16th) to try and get most of the construction wrapped up and then starting November 22nd we will open for weekends.  If we missed you last weekend, we hope we will see you SOON!  CHEERS!
